It's unusual to see the deli (or any service department) extending in to the Marina portion of the front of the store. This area would have looked much different at first, being within the large front window those stores were famous for; one of the entrances probably would have been somewhere over here too (I've seen quite a few different entrance configurations at Marina stores).
I was going to comment on the $2 French bread, but I looked it up and it's on sale for $2 right now. I guess Safeway's bakery prices have started to come back down, compensating for how much the quality has declined since the 2010s.
