From the outside, it was almost impossible to tell that this was ever a Marina store. The 90s facade did a very good job of covering that up, unfortunately. At least the new design looked pretty nice in its own right.
I'm not sure what kind of car the mint green one in the corner was, but I love that color! I wish more people had cars like that instead of the greyscale ones that are about all you ever see these days.
As far as the car in the corner goes, there isn't a lot to go by, but I believe that is a 2017ish Ford Fiesta sedan wearing the Bohai Bay Mint color. Around that time, sedans with decent colors were still available and small sedans/hatchbacks like that often had bolder colors than usual. These have been replaced with grayscale SUVs which would be ugly in any color. The dull colors draw less attention to them, which might be for the better, lol.
ReplyDeleteI saw a ~1995 Toyota Tercel with Washington plates going down a freeway here in Houston earlier this week. Tercels are rare sights to see here these days and so I wasn't surprised to see it have Washington (or Oregon) plates. It was plain white, so it wasn't interesting from a color perspective.
There is a person on YouTube who makes vintage electronics videos, and who gets a lot of views, who just traded in his 2018 white VW Jetta for a new 2024 Nissan Versa base model sedan with a manual transmission in bright blue. The Versa is still around in 2025, but the expectation is that this is the last year for it, even though sales are up, and it is only available in grayscale colors with the manual transmission in 2025 so the person scouted the dealers for a 2024 one and found one in Pennsylvania. Anyway, this person wanted a basic car like that with a real color like that before they were discontinued and he seems to be enjoying it so far. Hopefully they'll stick around if sales continue to rise, but I'm not too optimistic about that!
I'm pretty sure you're right -- turns out there's another picture of it coming up in today's set. Apparently that same car (I can't imagine there are two of them) was there during both of my 2022 visits! Maybe it belonged to an employee, though I'd be surprised if employees were parking right out front of the store considering how small the parking lot was.
DeleteI saw that Vwestlife video! I haven't watched the whole thing since it's not really my sort of thing, but I was surprised anyone was still making stick-shift cars as a basic option rather than a "sporty" option on higher-end models. My parents had one of those as a rental car when they were in Houston last year -- but not the manual version, of course!
