Using umbrellas isn't how you get Seattle to accept you

I headed up these escalators, the same way I went at the very start of this tour. It's amusing that Westfield decided to stick umbrellas on the "NWInspired" wall here -- yes, it's famously rainy around here, but Seattle is also a famously anti-umbrella city, with umbrellas being the mark of a tourist or newcomer. Whoever at Westfield decided to do this clearly wasn't particularly familiar with the culture of Seattle!

  1. In this region, malls, usually dying malls, with buckets on the floor to catch drips due to a bad roof aren't too uncommon! I know Westfield is Australian, but I don't know where the US operations are based. Someone there probably designed that local flair!

Maybe I've posted this here before, but I'm guessing supermarkets in your area won't be borrowing decor themes from The Umbrella Factory Supermarket in Naples, Maine! Link: https://maps.app.goo.gl/mMoX4xx6v2VoXYrG7

    1. Roof leaks and buckets are becoming a somewhat common sight even at non-dead malls around here. There were even some at Southcenter last time I visited! One of the malls I visited near Vancouver had a particularly bad roof to the point that it was practically raining inside in part of the mall (I was there during a downpour -- it was right before I went to the Coquitlam Save-On-Foods), and it was one of the busiest malls I've ever visited. It's definitely not a good sign for the future if even busy malls with hardly any vacancies can't afford (and/or are choosing not to invest in) basic maintenance...
