Inside the pharmacy is a little sign declaring it to be "the ❤️ heart of our business", which is a cute touch. I'm not such a fan of the products in the foreground -- apparently Canadians like their overpriced supplements just like Americans do, despite their (relatively) functional health care system.

Ha, yeah, it wouldn't be a pharmacy chain without over-priced supplements of questionable use. I suspect that some of these supplements probably are beneficial to certain people, like Vitamin D, though a good deal of people get sufficient vitamins through their diet and they do not need supplements like these. It is hard to say though, I'm not dietician, not even an amateur one!
ReplyDeleteMacroeconomic policy is more my expertise. With that in mind, the 'relatively' disclaimer on the functional heath care system is, unfortunately for Canadians, correct. Canada's provincial/national insurance program is better than what we have, and better than what a lot of other countries with universal health care have, but it is not all that it could be either. I can't say I'm up to speed on the situation in BC at the current time, but I've been keeping an eye on the situation in Quebec where there is considerable austerity towards the provincial health system and, thus, creeping privatization which is making their system increasingly like ours (my understanding is that this is not solely happening in Quebec either). I suppose a lot could be said about that situation, but that discussion will be well beyond the scope of this blog post, lol.
On a happier topic, neon! I was poking around on Google Maps earlier today and came across an independent supermarket (I'm almost sure) over in the land of Retail Retell. Well, kind of, this is in a corner of Arkansas which is about as far from Retail Retell as is possible, but still, lol. It's a neat store with interesting decor, but their deli has a large picture of a neon deli sign from elsewhere. Link: https://maps.app.goo.gl/agxp1vQtqzVWkxLs9
Obviously, a large picture of a neon sign isn't as good as an actual neon sign, but I'm not sure what to make of that! It's like admitting that neon is neat, and trying to get the neon look, but without putting in the real deal. Anyway, it is worth looking at all the photos on Google Maps of that store, they have some unique stuff going on and it looks like a nice, well-liked store!
@Anonymous -- that's a neat looking store!
DeleteYeah, I hear a lot of complaints from Canadians about their health system, but the ones who now live around here say it's even worse down here -- I guess the grass is always greener on the other side!
DeleteThat is an interesting store! I've never been a fan of that sort of massive-stock-photo decor, but at least it doesn't look boring, especially considering how cheap it is.
