I was impressed to see that this store still has a very nice in-store dining area, something that Safeway has largely killed off in the Seattle Division. Even better, the Modern remodel came with a local flair name for the cafe, something I thought had died off in the early days of Modern! Its name, the Crossroads Cafe, refers to the shopping center the store is in (The Crossroads) -- not as imaginative of a name as the Florida examples, but it's something. I'm not sure how much work Safeway did on this space in the Modern remodel (I'm guessing not much), but those bright red chairs are definitely a Modern-era thing.
The combination of the lettering style used for 'The crossroads' and 'Cafe' is a bit strange, but I guess it doesn't look too bad. The lowercase 'crossroads' bothers me more, but then we know how Safeway likes to capitalize everything or nothing....except for 'The' in this case! Go figure.
ReplyDeleteThis area looks pretty nice. Seating areas still exist in Houston Randall's and the one Modern store we have does have a name like this for their seating area (which is actually on a mezzanine level). That said, that store doesn't have the color that this store has and that store has terrible concrete floors compared to the nice flooring here.
I feel like these signs always look a bit weird, probably because they're custom-designed for each store. I guess Safeway wants them to look special, but sometimes it doesn't turn out all that great... and this is definitely one of those times.
