London Drugs will even sell you a suitcase to go along with the travel theme! Those are some seriously cheap prices they were advertising, though who knows what the quality of those no-name suitcases would really be (probably better than the no-name suitcases you can buy on the street in Italy, though!). This store only had one checkout open (and no self-checkouts), but it looks like that was more than enough for the amount of customers this store had at the time.
Ha, yeah, I'm sure the quality of that luggage is quite poor given the prices! It is probably the kind of luggage where the wheels will come off the first time it is checked on an airline, but I suppose it'll probably do the job for car trips and as checked luggage.
ReplyDeleteOn the topic of the checkouts, it looks like the clerk was aware of your presence! I'm guessing this was when you were leaving so you probably weren't too bothered about it.
I was reading some old newspaper articles about my local Randall's when it opened in 1974 as a Handy Andy. The store was initially about 40k in size (Randall's expanded it to 60k), but they still had 19 checkout stands! 19! And they proudly advertised that they would unload the carts at the checkstands. Ahh, those were the days! Those stores were really fancy, inside and out, and so they spent quite of bit of time talking about design details of the store including their mercury vapor lit department panel signs! It goes without saying that Randall's no longer has those around, lol.
Yep, that he was! I was walking out the door when I took this picture, so it didn't really matter.
DeleteWow, that's quite impressive for a store of that size! That's about the size of my local Safeway, which has a grand total of 3 regular registers (and as I've mentioned many times, it's extremely rare to see more than one open). I wonder what sort of mercury vapor lighting they were using -- possibly something similar to what's in this picture!
