I decided to get a nice picture of the FYE storefront since I figured it probably wasn't going to be around for much longer... and I was right, as it is no longer open. This is a pretty nice looking store -- it's certainly nowhere near as interesting as their 90s stores, but I like this logo a lot better than their current three-circles logo.

Interestingly enough, we only have one FYE in the Houston area and it is in Katy Mills. Although Katy Mills had a FYE years ago, it closed, but then they returned in around 2020 or 2021! It is hard to believe that a new FYE opened around that time! Unfortunately, I don't think there is much of interest at FYE aside from pop culture trinkets and such. They may have a few CDs, but even if they do, it probably isn't of anything I would be interested in. The days of aisles and aisles of music are long gone, and what they have is probably on LPs.
ReplyDeleteHaving said all of that, I was ordering classical music CDs from their website up until a couple of years ago. Their prices were competitive especially with their frequent 30-40% coupon codes. Unfortunately, the last time I tried to order from them, the website was acting up and the order didn't go through properly. That wasn't the first time that happened and so I just decided to use other places to get CDs without having to go through the mystery if my order will go through. I may try them again at some point though.
FYE's headquarters (at least their US ones, I think the Canadians own them now) are just outside Crossgates Mall in the Albany, NY area so I was not far from them when I went to Crossgates Mall earlier this year!
Although this older logo was commonly used on mall storefronts, I think this is a bit of an unusual look with the name spelled out and it saying music and movies like that. The ones I remember had the logo in the center and then movies and music flanking the logo on both sides. This one actually looks fancier, but unfortunately it is gone now!
