I don't remember where this was in the store, but I found it amusing that this sign just said "beverage" (singular) -- especially since the background text right next to it says "drinks". It's also nice to see all of the christmas decorations -- I'm not used to grocery stores doing decorations these days!
Other than the Pog juice, the products in this display look very ordinary by our supermarket standards. Even then, maybe Pog has some popularity at west coast supermarkets, but I don't know.
ReplyDeleteYou're probably way too young to remember this, but the Pog bottle cap game became a real fad across the US in around 1994. It is hard to explain, but retailers were rushing to put Pogs in their stores and they even made Pogs with their logos on them. There were even dedicated pop-up Pog stores. The popularity came and went very quickly, but I'm sure there are people with retail Pog collections! What I'm saying probably sounds more foreign than some items at Seafood City, lol, so I'll just link to the Pog Wikipedia page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milk_caps_(game)
Huh, I had heard of the pog fad, and I'm familiar with POG juice (it's been a long time since I've had it; I wasn't a big fan), but I had no idea those things were related!
