I know, another Walmart already, but I alluded to this one in the last set so I think it's time for me to get it out of my backlog! The last Walmart we looked at was a former Kmart that had spent many years as an RV dealership, and I mentioned it wasn't the only Walmart I had visited that was previously a not-quite-car dealership -- this is the other one, having previously been a motorcycle dealer called Cycle Barn (which apparently still exists, they've just moved further away from Seattle). Like the Kwalmart, I suspect this store was something else before its motorcycle days. Walmart opened this Neighborhood Market circa 2015, and it still had its original Cheap Impact decor when I visited (it has since been remodeled to Airport, but I don't have much interest in revisiting this store).

Ha, when I saw the thumbnails for today's posts, my thoughts were something like, "Really, another Walmart?"
ReplyDeleteThe name Cycle Barn rung a bell for me. For a minute, I thought that was the name of a bicycle store which used to exist around here, but upon further thought, I think that was Bike Barn, not Cycle Barn. Well, anyway, you can see how they might be confused for one another and they don't even sell the same things!
The parking lot here is quite strange. Given the number of old GM cars and lack of Subarus in the parking lot, you really could confuse someone into thinking that this is near Tacoma even though it isn't! They aren't just any old GMs either, there are two lesser-known examples of GM badge engineering, and both are Oldsmobiles! My first thought is that it was a bit strange to see a 1990s Chevrolet Malibu in your part of the world, but it is actually the badge engineered Oldsmobile version, the Oldsmobile Cutlass! While it isn't unheard of to see one of those Malibus here in Houston, I have not seen the Oldsmobile version in a long time. They were never very common to begin with.
Next to it is something even stranger in many ways, an Oldsmobile Bravada SUV. Those S-10 based GM SUVs were pretty common in Chevrolet and GMC form, but not so much in Oldsmobile form! GM once made a newer generation of those in badge engineered Saab form. As much as people in your area may have liked Saabs, I don't think they bought those, lol. But, yeah, I guess Seattle-area Walmart shoppers are the Oldsmobile types!
There is another parking lot oddity in the Cycle Barn photo, a last-generation Toyota Cressida! Hey, I know this is a lot of attention on the parking lot, but it is Walmart, lol.
Cycle Barn sounds more like a bicycle store than a motorcycle dealer to me, but it was definitely a motorcycle place! And Bike Barn sounds more likely to sell motorcycles, so I guess I'm just all backwards! 😃
DeleteThe part that surprised me is just how many sedans there are in these pictures, especially considering the snowy conditions! Seattle isn't a place with a lot of sedans in the best of times, and people around here tend to freak out when there's even the slightest bit of snow and go for their big SUVs and trucks... but apparently Lynnwood is a bit different.
