The frozen department is a little odd too, with a small section of coffin coolers tacked on to the end of one of the aisles. I think this was a common thing for Neighborhood Markets at one point, but it's a weird look, especially with the refrigeration pipes just running down the end of the freezers. I'm not really sure why they have a display of croutons over here either -- normally those are in the produce section with the salad stuff!
In some ways, this isn't too dissimilar from what one of the nicest Krogers in Houston, the River Oaks Kroger that I did last December's The Year of Kroger post about, has in their frozen food area, but yet Kroger has so much more polish on how they present this same general set up: https://houstonhistoricretail.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/IMG_0803-jpeg.webp
ReplyDeleteOf course, when Kroger looks well-polished as compared to something else, Walmart in this case, that really says how bad Walmart must be! Granted, this is one of the nicer Krogers around, but still. This Walmart Neighborhood Market might well be above average for a Walmart Neighborhood Market! I don't know, I've only been in one of them and that was years ago and that location has been closed for quite a long time now!
Interesting, that is a similar setup! I've never seen anything like that in any local Krogers.
DeleteThere are some fairly nice Neighborhood Markets out there (Walmart has experimented with upscale decor at them from time to time), but this isn't one of them! I don't have a lot to compare this to (I've only ever visited 3 Neighborhood Markets, all with this decor), but anything with Cheap Impact-era decor has to be below average in my view!
