I think you can see here why I absolutely had to come to this store, the only grocery store I photographed on this trip -- it has Save-On-Foods' newest decor package, featuring ample use of neon! I absolutely love this store, and I hope this decor spreads to other Jim Pattison stores (in Canada and the US) in the near future. Unfortunately, as soon as I took this picture, I had a group of employees corral me to complain about me taking pictures (to which I played the dumb tourist card 😃). Thankfully, I was still able to get a full set (without having to come all the way back to Coquitlam, which is quite a ways from central Vancouver where I was staying), but I had to be a bit stealthy and the quality is probably not 100% what I would have wanted. Still, this is absolutely my favorite modern grocery store I've ever visited, and I left (as I always do) wishing I had Canadian grocery stores to shop at instead of the junk we have around here.
By the way, I know I normally do short sets on Mondays, meaning we should be looking at Grocery Palace's last stand at Battle Ground today. But I'm breaking all sorts of my "rules" for this because I think this store is just too cool to not post right away!
I know you shared some previews of this store on Discord already, but I'm still looking forward to seeing your coverage of the rest of this place - the previews were certainly intriguing!
ReplyDeleteI don't know if this was the very first photo you took upon entering, but if it was, that was fast as far as attracting the attention of employees goes. You'd think with a nice new store they'd like the attention! Even if they were upset with the photo-taking at least they didn't straight-up tell you to stop or act too nasty about it, but I guess that's one time when acting like a tourist can play in one's favor!
Yep, this really was the first inside picture -- I'm pretty sure the people who confronted me were cart retrievers or some other sort of outdoors workers, since they had hi-viz raincoats on, so maybe they saw me taking pictures outdoors first. But still...
DeleteI'd say this decor is most akin to Safeway Ultra-Premium with added neon accents. It definitely has a lot of the bold colors and designs that Modern lacks!
ReplyDeleteThe neon script does look a bit like that Safeway neon -- it's certainly closer to that than it is to Kroger neon!
Hmm, I have no idea. Maybe it's some flavor of Bannerisan! That's a picture I took at the Bellingham Fred Meyer on the way home from this trip -- sadly we won't be getting a full tour of that store since I was just waiting for my grandparents to use the restroom, but it was an interesting sight.
The only place I could imagine getting a Fred Meyer "brand shop" would be Portland! They're really a big deal culturally down there... not so much around here, where people are loyal to no one but Costco! 😉
The décor in that specific linked picture (choice cuts) is definitely artisan! Also, I haven't seen any Kroger brand shops, but that sounds interesting...
