If you've been paying attention to the perimeter service departments so far, you'll have noticed that they all have a "black hole" above the drop ceiling, open to the warehouse ceiling above. Typically this is one of my biggest pet peeves in retail design, and you've seen me complain about them many many times before... but for some reason, they didn't really bother me in this store. I think it's something about how they just blend in with the overall dark ceiling, rather than sticking out like they do in most stores (ones with lighter ceilings and brighter lighting). I'd still much rather see the bulkheads above the service departments go all the way to the ceiling, but overall, it's not bad. I also didn't particularly mind the dark ceiling, something I typically don't like. There's just something about the overall lighting and decor here that draws your eyes to pretty much everything except the ceiling, something other grocery chains could really learn from!
The centerpiece of the produce department, right next to the only actual produce sign, is the "Fresh Bar" counter. The name makes it sound like a hot foods bar or something of that sort, but it's actually the produce service area, with cut fruit, juices, and the like. Produce service departments like this were popular in the 90s and early 00s, but it's pretty unusual to see one in a brand-new store like this!
