Interestingly, the back wall of the alcove still has some old wood paneling, hiding under several coats of paint. I'm not sure how old this really is -- it could well be from when the store was first built, but it could also be much newer since Safeway often used similar paneling around their dairy cases into the early 00s (I've never seen it anywhere else in their stores, however). I'm also not sure what the deal is with the computer fans mounted to the top of the donut case -- I've seen this in a few Safeways, but I have no idea what the intent is (maybe some sort of insect control thing?), and it definitely doesn't seem like an elegant solution to whatever they're trying to do!
