Triangle in a square

The entryway area looks super weird too, with what looks like an enclosed area up above that Safeway's floor plan tries to completely ignore. I'm guessing that Max Foods had this enclosed as a vestibule, perhaps with separate in and out doors on the two open sides of the rectangle. The placement of the "serving Seattle since" sign also looks a bit awkward! The strangest part, however, might be the completely-enclosed Starbucks tucked behind the floral department -- I've seen stuff like this at other stores, but Safeway really liked making the open Starbucks kiosk an integral part of their Lifestyle stores, and I don't think I've ever seen a completely closed-off Starbucks like this at any other Safeway! I'm guessing Max Foods originally had something in that space (it was trendy for large stores to have separate leased-out tenant spaces back then), and maybe it was even Starbucks -- that photo of the Starbucks is dated 1999, which definitely predates Safeway's mass introduction of Starbucks kiosks that happened a few years into the Lifestyle era!
