Suspended cellar

Save Mart left Albertsons' giant hanging wine arbor in place, adding their own The Liquor Store sign (which looks rather dinky in comparison!) next to it. It's interesting how much emphasis they put on wine here, since Albertsons typically tended to emphasize their beer section (unlike other chains such as Safeway or QFC).

That is interesting to think about which stores around here emphasize wine versus beer. Really, the only one I can think of which does that around here, on a consistent basis, is Randall's. This is in the Safeway/Albertsons era, of course, as Randall's didn't even sell beer & wine until the mid-1990s in Houston. Kroger certainly attracts a beer-drinking crowd around here, as did Safeway during their first go around in Houston, and Albertsons didn't really attract any kinds of crowds here during the Grocery Palace era, lol. Most of the wine buyers I see at Kroger are the ones buying boxed wine!

    1. Interesting! Albertsons is the only chain around here that consistently emphasized beer. Fred Meyer doesn't lean heavily in one direction or the other, but I feel like they still give wine more prominent placement than beer. Must be a local thing... I don't really know since I don't drink alcohol at all!
