I don't have much more to say about the front end, apart from one last oddity -- this store might just have the highest percentage of express checkouts I've ever seen, at nearly half (3 out of 7)! It used to be common for Safeways to have 3 or more express lanes, but that was before they added self checkouts. I suspect the one at the far end was supposed to be converted to a standard lane when this store's self checkouts were installed, and that just didn't happen. (Having express checkouts on both ends of the row is also a long-standing Safeway thing that went away with the expansion of self checkouts, but it doesn't really make sense in this store that only has an entrance at one end!)
