Flipped produce

The produce section now just has the cases along the aisle side of the space, which seems to indicate a major downsizing of the department (something that would have been unthinkable in the Lifestyle era, when produce departments were one of Safeway's main attractions). At least the change did lead to the introduction of my favorite Modern feature, the "floating" produce sign!

Huh, I guess Safeway wanted this store to feel more like a modern Safeway...not just in decor, but in layout as well. I guess it is also modern in cost-cutting as well especially as it pertains to the Seattle Division! I can't really say for sure if Randall's has downsized their produce departments. I don't think so, but there are certain products they have to sell here due to the diverse population in Houston.

    1. I guess, though this sort of layout is much more Albertsons than Safeway in my opinion! I haven't seen Safeways downsizing their produce sections on a regular basis, but they've definitely downgraded them in terms of quality and selection since the merger. Of course, pretty much everything about Safeway has been downgraded in quality and selection!
