Deli in the middle

But instead of the floral department seamlessly blending into produce, there's a whole deli stuck between those two departments! I have no idea what this store's layout would have been like in the Max Foods days (no other examples survive for me to compare this to, and since they had a grand total of three stores it's entirely possible they never had a consistent layout), but my guess is that Safeway left the major departments pretty much as they were. All of the fixtures over here are standard-issue Safeway ones, but that's no surprise since Lifestyle remodels almost always included a complete overhaul of the service departments anyways. It seems Safeway wasn't quite sure what to do with this area when it came time for Lifestyle -- normally the deli has beige vinyl flooring with the woodgrain stuff just running in a small strip along the cases, but here the woodgrain (which would normally flow from produce into floral without any interruption) also fills the whole deli area.
