Dead space

I'm not convinced this concept ever made a ton of sense -- the original idea of linking natural foods with the produce department was logical, but the expansion cut through into a seemingly arbitrary collection of general food aisles. And the promotional space was kind of hidden within the aisles, going against the idea of putting stuff on display for impulse buys. When Albertsons/Safeway decided to kill off their natural/specialty foods departments entirely in the late 2010s (I know the idea was that they were going to integrate them with the rest of the store, but a lot of the stuff that used to be in those aisles is nowhere to be found at Safeway today), the whole thing ended up making even less sense since there was no common factor between the aisles, and no reason for the produce department to flow through into this area.
