Even setting aside the issue of the awful floor, this corner of the store looks rather awkward. The worst part is probably thank you sign crammed way too far into the corner (with the tail of the y practically touching the deli soffit), but the extremely bland font on the HOT BAR sign looks pretty bad too (I thought it was a mistake when that font showed up in the first couple Woodgrain Lifestyle stores, but apparently not) -- plus, "hot bar" just sounds a bit odd. And, of course, there are the dumb Sincerely puns on full display. I wonder if the deli was expanded at some point (the initial Lifestyle remodel would be the most likely time), since it's strange how it overlaps the secondary entrance!
Nothing says 'Hot Bar' more than a refrigerated case!
ReplyDeleteI've never seen those 'Thank you' signs positioned quite like that. Usually they are floating in space except in places which have limited space above the doors in which they are usually centered above the doors. This looks quite strange! Of course, the floor here looks even worse than the odd 'Thank you' sign and the not-so-hot bar.
If you want to see someone use a check to buy groceries, just go to a Houston Randall's and you'll be sure to see it! Randall's attracts wealthy old ladies who want a more traditional grocery shopping experience...paying by check and all!
That's one of the weird cases Safeway often uses that are part refrigerated, part heated. The portion with the rotisserie chickens is definitely a warmer, but I'm not sure if any other parts of the case are.
DeleteI've often seen Safeway put the thank you sign above an entrance like this, but they normally do a better job of adjusting its size to fit the space! I suspect they didn't want to shift it further to the left because of the mural that takes up much of the front wall, but a smaller sign would look a lot better. Of course, centering it over the entrance is more common, but that wouldn't really work here due to the weird overlap with the deli!
