If you look straight up that exterior wall, you can get a view of the large circular window on the back of the building, now awkwardly spanning the second and third floors. (As far as I can tell, all of the structure for the upper floors was added when Eataly moved in; the original train station building only had one partial level above the ground floor, which was at a similar level to the current second floor but seems to have been completely removed.) Unsurprisingly, there aren't a lot of pictures online showing what the interior of this building originally looked like, but here's one (taken from the escalators -- my kind of picture!) showing the much more open original look.
