I think I took this picture solely because I thought the "cultures" sign was a bit unusual. I assume it's referring to yogurt and yogurt-like products, though there's already a category marker for that around the corner. It's also amusing to see the "freshness is a way of life" sign directly above the selection of intentionally un-fresh milk!
Huh, I don't think I've ever seen a 'cultures' sign at Kroger before. That is quite strange!
ReplyDeleteHa, I was at a Krogertsons yesterday and I saw some frozen items in the frozen food case which expired in February 2024 and a couple of Kroger brand frozen items which didn't have a date printed on the boxes at all! Nothing like a Kroger mystery expiration date!
While Kroger is pretty good at having decent expiration dates on certain items relative to the competition here in Houston, they are also prone to selling expired items, sometimes expired by many months, so I'm not so sure if that slogan really applies to modern Kroger. At the time Bountiful was being applied, it was probably more accurate than it is now. At least that is the case in Houston, other divisions may vary. I thought the Fred Meyers I saw in Portland were even better than Kroger in Houston in terms of milk expiration dates and such, but perhaps Fred Meyer has local dairy production in that area.
Ha! My local Safeway definitely has an issue with bad expiration dates, especially on dairy and bakery items (which they rarely mark down as their dates approach like other stores do), and they do have local production for dairy items. I once found some massively expired bags of baby carrots, too. I don't shop QFC/Fred Meyer enough to know what the situation is like there!
