Ovals everywhere

The main part of the deli looks pretty much the same as any reasonably modern Safeway, just with fancy new decor! I still haven't completely come around to the fact that wood paneling is a modern design trend (the stuff in this department has a serious early-midcentury-modern look to it), but the deep blue paint is quite nice and not the type of color I often see in grocery stores. (It feels like the blue version of the deep maroon Lifestyle used in the deli!) I also really like the half-oval category marker things -- I've never seen anything like that in any other decor!

Ha, I think the wood looks pretty nice! The wood here reminds me of a late 1980s Fiesta Mart, albeit without the neon. I was at the Jones Rd. & FM 1960 Whataburger III here in Houston recently. The Whataburger III just opened 2-3 months ago and is the third different Whataburger location at that intersection over the last 40 years or so. That's why we call it Whataburger III. Anyway, the tables at Whataburger III have a dark fake woodgrain finish that looks like something from 1970s cheap furniture or wall paneling. In fact, we have some furniture at work, which is probably original to our building from 1968-9, which looks just like it! So, anyway, compared to that dark fake woodgrain finish, I'm sure you'd rather take what's in this Pavilions. Granted, I suppose what Whataburger is using isn't wildly different than Modern, but at least Modern uses it in smaller doses. Anyway, here are the Whataburger III photos if you want to see the woodgrain used there: https://maps.app.goo.gl/wNfF4SRzeAb4Hbpq9

Speaking of Modern, that 'The Bistro' area does show some similarity to Modern. It is nicer than Modern though and it most certainly is giving off some Kroger vibes! Granted, I've never referred to anything at Kroger as being a 'bistro' even if the wall signs may indicate otherwise, lol.

The delicatessen sign is showing the opposite problem of the signage we discussed yesterday. Here, things start out in standard letters and then changes to a cursive script...within the same word! I find this to be a bit annoying, lol.

That shade of blue is quite nice!

    1. I think the wood on the wall looks nice too (unlike the woodgrain on the cases!), but it still reads as somewhat outdated in my mind! For whatever reason, Modern's wood paneling doesn't come across as outdated as much as this does.

I don't mind the mixed font thing all that much, but I'm not a fan of changing fonts in the middle of a word like this!
