serving Holly Park since 1954

It's cool that this store got a neighborhood-level Serving Since sign, since it emphasizes just how vintage this store is, though I'm not sure what the story is with the 1954 date when property records show it as having been built in 1953. Either way, that's 70 years ago now -- to put that into perspective, when this store was built, the modern concept of a supermarket was only 30-40 years old (depending on exactly what combination of concepts you define a modern supermarket with). When this store opened, my grandparents weren't old enough to legally buy the alcohol in the background of this view! It's amazing how long this store has stuck around, with only relatively minor changes and expansion over the years.

On a similar note, "Holly Park" is a rather old name for this neighborhood, referring to an old public housing development that would have been fairly new when the store opened. The development was rebuilt in the 00s and rebranded "New Holly", while the neighborhood as a whole goes by Othello, a name that was solidified when it was chosen for the light rail station right outside the store.
