Fresh bread is calling my name

The bakery is always the highlight of a Haggen visit for me, though the one here doesn't entirely look the part. Sure, the bagel-hanging hooks are kind of neat, but the fixtures just don't look all that great overall, and the FRESH BREAD sign that's bigger than the main bakery sign looks a bit tacky. And don't even get me started on the flooring -- the awkward lip in the foreground of the picture must be where the ceramic tile used to end, but for some reason the new fake wood doesn't fill that entire space, leaving this bit of ugliness for all to see. Don't get me wrong, though, Haggen's bakery products are about the best you can get at a chain grocery store, far better than the overpriced, mediocre stuff Safeway sells these days without being significantly more expensive.

This doesn't look all that bad to me except for the flooring which ruins everything. The bagel hooks are a bit strange, but I guess it fits with the rural theme Haggen seems to use or used at least. The wood paneling does look a bit dated, but it reminds me of Kroger Bountiful more than anything from the 1980s specifically. I suppose I'm used to low-height service departments given the number of ones we have here in Houston since wedding cake ceiling heights was considered upscale and trendy at one time. I never minded that trend!

The flooring is, of course, disgraceful. Haggen's baked goods might be good, but this sight is enough to ruin my appetite! I'm not sure what is worse, the tile scar, the patched areas, or the potholes! This all has the appearance of a Kroger...not a very nice Kroger at that! This doesn't look all that bad to me except for the flooring which ruins everything. Huh, I have no idea why it double posted my comment! Sorry about that! Maybe that appalling floor caused me to have double vision or something, I don't know, lol.

    2. The flooring really does ruin everything, but I just don't like the dark wood paneling either. I get the Bountiful comparison, though -- but I don't particularly like the way Bountiful looks in low-ceiling stores either!

  2. The floors are quite bad, but the selection of fresh bread reminds me of something I'd see in a French supermarket!
