Always fresh

Still, Haggen's independence has some definite upsides -- for example, the bakery has completely different products than what you'd find in any Safeway! I got an almond croissant, which was far better than I expected and almost on par with what my favorite local bakeries have (which is good, since the price is also nearly the same as what they charge) and a giant pretzel, which was certainly not the best pretzel I've ever had, but still significantly less disappointing than Fred Meyer's offering. (And no, I'm not the person in the hi-viz vest in the reflection -- I've talked in the past about wanting to try that, but haven't ever worked up the courage to do so!)

Ha, well, that Haggen pretzel sure does look better than that Fred Meyer one! I'm not sure if it is worth $2.99, and I normally don't eat pretzels anyway, but it does look pretty good.

Haggen certainly does have more than a modern Randall's bakery. That said, I was at my local Randall's this weekend and they had the Lifestyle-era open gas oven, or whatever that is, on and it looked quite impressive. It certainly puts on a nicer show than the average supermarket bakery around here, but that's not saying much given that Kroger is the 'best of the rest' and Kroger probably doesn't bake much at all in their bakeries these days.

I wonder if those Haggen gas rewards work at the Safeway fuel station in the parking lot of this Haggen!

    1. Yeah, $2.99 did seem a bit overpriced...

Those decorative ovens from deluxe Lifestyle stores were always cool! It's too bad that Safeway doesn't really use them around here anymore -- they're more like your Krogers, I suspect.

I'm pretty sure Haggen and Safeway rewards points are completely interchangeable, but I think you're thinking of the other Haggen I'm currently posting!
