The meat department in this store is completely unremarkable, consisting of a service case, some upright cases, and a pair of coffin coolers -- basically the same as every other reasonably-modern Safeway. The only feature that's somewhat noteworthy would be the weirdly-thick grey stripe along the top of the walls, which I have no explanation for.
I guess this store got new aisle markers somewhere along the way, probably not long before Safeway US sold these stores off. I have to admit that I'm liking the chalkboard signs! I'm a bit of a sucker for those, Randall's used to use those a lot back in the day. I'm obviously talking about the pre-Safeway days. I wonder if that's real chalk art or if it is mass-produced and made to look like chalk.
ReplyDeleteYeah, the Safeway Canada sale happened in 2013, which is around the same time Safeway started their mid-2010s refreshes. This is one of the only Canadian stores to have ever gotten the refresh, and only a partial one at that, lacking the new category markers and the health and beauty upgrade (maybe because of the bilingual features at this store, or maybe it was just done on the cheap since they weren't going to be keeping the store for much longer).
