The aisle markers here just get weirder the longer you look. At first I was going to make a comment about this store being boring enough to have an entire aisle full of water (a bit of an ironic comment coming from me, someone who basically only drinks water, but I avoid bottled water as much as possible!), but then I noticed that one of the categories under "water" is wine. Hmm. In the PF&H tradition, the aisle marker at the far end of the aisle has different category plaques, and in this store also different aisle names -- and this time, the famous Albertsons "New Age Beverages" name is back! (Both water and wine are among the oldest beverages in the world, so "new age" makes even less sense here than normal... but you do you, Albertsons.)
All that talk about drinks makes me thirsty for a nice glass of "enhanced"! Only problem, I have no clue what that actually is! Guess I'll stick with my water 😃
Ha, I think the 'new age beverages' are over in the produce aisle! Well, some of them at least! I'm not sure what 'enhanced' means in this context, but I guess they mean things like VitaminWater and sports drinks. Who knows.
ReplyDeleteI only drink tap water unless I'm traveling or something. I keep some distilled water on hand for things like the iron which might need that (the tap water here is rather hard), but otherwise it is rare for me to spend a lot on water. It is pretty amazing how much space goes to water and wine at this store especially since this doesn't even count the soft drink aisle(s), but I suppose the local Grocery Palace Krogertsons isn't much different.
This post is inspiring me to re-watch Andy Rooney's rant against bottled water. Granted, you may not even be old enough to remember Andy Rooney, lol. Link: https://youtu.be/S7LqsAnhrR4
I'm definitely glad that bottled water isn't as popular these days as it was back when that 60 Minutes piece was made, but I guess it must still be fairly popular in California based on how much space this store gives to it! Then again, they have to have something to fill this giant store, and bottled water is good for that since it essentially never goes bad. But bottled water would be very much on brand for California's fake environmentalism! I know some areas have tap water that isn't completely drinkable, but I highly doubt that's the issue in this wealthy suburb of LA.
DeleteYou never know which retailers are going to fill their excessive space with bottled water. Houston's first Lowe's Outlet opened recently next to my local Randall's. The spot the Lowe's Outlet is in is the ex-Stein Mart with the 3D walkable map I shared with you many months back. Anyway, in addition to the expected appliances, BBQ pits, and lawn tractors, Lowe's Outlet seems to fill their space with a lot of bottled water and toilet paper. I'm not sure who goes to Lowe's, or Lowe's Outlet, for such things especially when Randall's is right next door, but there you go! Link: https://maps.app.goo.gl/LpfTzP8TxATJ7vAY9
