Continuing along the left wall, the dairy department transitions into frozen foods, keeping the same assortment of knickknacks along the top of the cases (including an old Clabber Girl ad, a bit of a strange choice seeing as that's still an active brand). I quite like the frozen food category markers, even if they look a little out of place with the rest of the decor here.
I'm glad to hear you enjoyed your Thanksgiving break. This is certainly an interesting looking frozen food department and not just because of the coffin coolers! Usually older stores will have the coffin coolers and then stand-up cases of some kind surrounding the coffin coolers, but here frozen food has a bit of a corner. It is unusual, but I guess it works. It really doesn't look much different from the way many grocers have their dairy corners I suppose.
ReplyDeleteHa, Clabber Girl is an interesting story! Until recently, the family that owned Clabber Girl for decades also owned the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the Indycar Series. It is a bit of an odd combination, baking powder and auto racing, but that was the 'winning' combo from around 1946 to just the last five years or so when the Hulman family started selling their business interests. This information doesn't make a Clabber Girl sign fit any better in a frozen foods department, but maybe this is just another case of an unexpected combo, lol.
This picture is a little bit deceptive -- the frozen department is basically just a big aisle along the right-hand wall of the store, like what a lot of stores have. Other than the angled corner, the layout is a lot more typical than it looks from my pictures!
DeleteWow, I never knew that! Very interesting!
