That's not to say there aren't more oddities up here, like the Qxpress register light that has been stripped of all of its express labeling, leaving this just the Q Lane. I also just noticed that there was absolutely no signage for the self checkouts, something that's rather unusual for Kroger.
This is perhaps the most upscale feature of this store! No, not the ugly off-white wedding cake ceiling fascia, not the weird express lane light, but the fact that the checkstands don't have a belt and that the checkers pull items right off the carts! I know most people wouldn't think much about that, but since that was normal back in the day, I do notice it.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of QFC, did you see the latest merger rumors about the FTC being unimpressed with the C&S divestments according to Supermarket News? Link: https://www.supermarketnews.com/retail-financial/former-ftc-policy-director-kroger-albertsons-merger-facing-hurricane-storm
I imagine QFC shoppers really wouldn't think much about it, since checkstands like this are still a very common sight at older QFCs! And I think this picture shows why -- there really isn't any space for the extra length of a conveyor belt.
DeleteI don't think there's much of anything that Kroger/Albertsons would be willing to do that would completely satisfy the FTC at this point -- which isn't a bad thing, in fact quite the opposite, in my opinion!
