Based on the previous pictures, you may be wondering how this store had room to fit a coffin case in its meat department -- it's notched into the aisles on this side of the rear actionway, rather than being in an alcove in the back wall as in 90s/00s Safeways. This is a fairly common feature of Safeways from this era. The meat service department looks dark and closed here, but I'm pretty sure it was actually open since Safeway doesn't normally leave the meat service cases full after hours -- it seems they left the dim Lifestyle lighting in place in that part of the store, strangely enough.
