Scan. Call. Find. (Not quite the same as Scan Bag Go)

Here's a closeup of one of those shiny new "help centers", as Target calls them now. (These things have sure gone through a lot of names over the years, despite the overall concept staying remarkably unchanged!) I'm not a huge fan of the fancy modern touchscreen setup -- it looks cool, but I feel like Target made these things far more complicated than they needed to and the plain old price scanners were much more useful as price scanners. (Basically, I feel the same way about these giant touchscreens as I do about giant touchscreens in cars.)

  1. Yeah, I agree with you about touchscreens. I was recently talking to some Houston retail enthusiasts and they were mentioning how HEB's gas stations have started to use touchscreen gas pumps where everything, including fuel octane, has to be selected via a touchscreen and it seems these screens don't work well at all. It just seems silly to use touchscreens for such a purpose and it seems people really have to press things multiple times and press them hard just to get the pumps to work. It is pretty silly. Fortunately, I have not had the misfortune of using such a gas pump.

Just from the look of things in the photo, the price scanner seems simple enough to use, but I guess looks can be deceiving!

    1. Yikes, that sounds terrible! Why does everyone seem to think people want to use touchscreens for everything these days??

I suppose they aren't that complicated, but I still think traditional scanners are much easier to use.

  2. If nothing else, at least Target still provides price scanners for shoppers. Walmart removed all their price scanners in the last few years, trying to force everyone to use the Walmart app to look up prices. (However, with how much of a mess Walmart's store usually are, it seems like having in-store price scanners would be more helpful, as in-store scanners are linked to the in-store POS system prices, whereas the app is linked to the online prices, which can be different, especially with store-initiated markdowns).

    1. That's certainly true. Thankfully, I hardly ever shop at Walmart!
