Heading out the door, I got one last shot of the food court from the main corridor. It's really incredible to see this many people at a mall food court that isn't in Canada! There are hardly any open tables visible in this shot, and I remember having to walk around for a while to find a spot to sit -- definitely not my typical mall experience!
As I've said before, I don't go to my local mall all that often these days, but I was there on a Saturday evening back in April or May. It wasn't any special kind of day outside of it being the weekend. I was only at the mall because Comcast has a storefront there and I needed to exchange equipment. Anyway, I stopped by the food court with the idea of maybe eating there, but the food court was absolutely packed with even fewer open seats than what you see here! I had to cancel my plans to eat at the mall!
ReplyDeleteNow, it should be said that it does seem like the food court at my local mall has had some kind of minor renovation which has cut the number of tables down even more than what was the case 7-8 years ago when some of the food court was altered to allow Dick's Sporting Goods to fit. So, yeah, it's not as big as it was some years ago and they might want to consider adding more tables! In this photo of the Tacoma Mall, I'm not sure if they could add more even if they wanted to, but this was a Christmastime photo so maybe usually it is not that busy unless this mall is located near a business district and they get a lot of lunchtime diners from the offices. The urban Canadian malls I went to benefited from that...at least they did before Covid.
The Vancouver Mall food court was pretty full when I went there as well, but there were some empty tables. The Panda Express was by far the most popular vendor by a 2 or even 3-to-1 margin. No wonder Safeway sells Chinese food in their delis in Oregon! Granted, Panda Express is probably popular just about everywhere. While Canadian malls are known for their great variety in ethnic food, there was a sign at Vancouver Mall for a Ukrainian food place that is set to open in the future. I can't say I ever saw Ukrainian food at a Canadian food court! The Vancouver Mall also has a tamales vendor in the food court, but I don't think I saw a single person doing business there. Perhaps tamales aren't as popular in the NW as in Texas, but then again, I have not even seen a tamale place at a mall here...or in Canada! Granted, I don't visit malls all that often in the last five years or so.
Wow, I guess I just don't visit the right malls! I'm surprised that Vancouver Mall's food court was that popular, and also surprised Panda Express was busy -- they generally aren't all that popular around here, since there are so many better Asian food options available.
