Looking back through the tunnel

Another oddity about the purple zone is how it's almost sealed off from the rest of the rest of the salesfloor, due to the cheese cases nearly touching the lower ceiling above this aisle. That's probably part of the reason this feels so dark! The ceiling design and purple lighting here is giving me a bit of a Heathrow vibe.

I've never been to Heathrow Airport. Based on those images, I don't think I will ever go there either. Then again, I don't think dumpy stuff is all that uncommon in London so maybe that fits the theme! I'm not sure if any airport in Europe looks good these days, but I'd probably take my chances with AMS, which is what I usually did in the past, if I had to go to or through Europe!

Did someone do a burnout with a cart or is that some kind of strange concrete scarring? Either way, you can guess what I think about it and this store as a whole, lol.

    1. I've only ever flown through Heathrow once, probably around 20 years ago now, and I wasn't a fan, but my parents have been there a few times recently (pre-COVID) and seem to think it's better now. I like AMS, but I'm surprised to hear you say that since it has a very industrial design! It's certainly not one of the nicest airports I've been through from an architectural perspective.

Ha, I'm pretty sure that's just a spill that hadn't been cleaned up. Probably not a lot of staff this late at night!

I have not been to LHR or CDG, but I've been to FRA a few times and it is very industrial as well and not as easy to move around as AMS so I will give AMS a bit of an edge. I've been to both Milian-Linate and Milan-Malpensa and both felt like something from the 1960s or 1970s. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but with MXP at least, it felt like it was last cleaned in the 1980s! Oh well, for better or worse, bright, shiny, and new aren't things you expect to see in Milan! The Holiday Inn near Linate was pretty nice at least, but this was 20 years ago!

    3. I haven't ever been to FRA or CDG, though I really want to check out CDG sometime -- especially terminal 1, with its awesome escalators and moving walkways! Terminal 2 looks pretty nice too. We always avoided connecting through CDG, though, since it sounded like a bit of a hassle (at least back in the 00s)

I haven't been to Linate either, but I definitely wasn't impressed with MXP the couple times I was there. They've recently built a new concourse, but it doesn't really look much nicer than the old parts!
