Something familiar, something new

Stepping inside, this store has what I believe is Save-On's current decor package (or a fairly recent one, at least), but also a ton of Safeway remnants! And there are lots more to be seen as we move on through this store, making for quite an interesting sight -- despite the name, Save-On-Foods isn't much of a discount chain, and the decor is pretty nice overall (especially compared to what Safeway Canada is using these days...), so it's a bit odd to see just how much they left behind.

Yeah, there's clearly a lot here with a Safeway design so it would be easy to tell this was a Safeway even if you didn't say anything. The most obvious parts to me are the aisle markers and the general ceiling design. Some of the displays here actually make this look worse than a typical US Safeway though even in modern times though!

It is kind of funny how some grocery chains have budget-sounding names, like Price Chopper in the Northeast US, but they really aren't budget stores. Heck, even Randall's went by Randall's Discount Supermarket for a brief time in the 1970s. I suppose this is another example of this. I remember seeing Save-On on Google Maps a few years ago and expecting one thing, but then finding quite a nice store when I looked inside!

    1. Yeah, and there's a lot more to see throughout the store!

Between Save-On and Thrifty, BC is full of fake discount grocery stores! I'd even say Thrifty is a somewhat upscale mid-range chain, similar to QFC down here. That being said, not all of Save-On's stores are all that nice, but it seems they've been upgrading them to be more similar to this place.
