The strangest part about this store, in my opinion, is the aisle markers. We've seen so many instances where stores have replaced the aisle markers with ones from a newer package as a cheap way of remodeling a store without replacing the wall decor, but Save-On went the completely opposite way, replacing all the wall decor while keeping the aisle markers. But even then, they replaced the old aisle names with blank woodgrain panels, while still leaving all of the number and category plaques exactly as they were, in a font that doesn't match anything else in the store (not that this decor has the tendency to pick a font and stick to it). I've seen a lot of weird decisions over the years, but this is one I just can't wrap my head around.
Ha, sometimes Safeway has their own aisle marker madness. Take this Tom Thumb in Arlington, TX as an example. The store is in an old Winn-Dixie, which itself is a bonkers. A Safeway in an old Winn-Dixie?! Where's AFB and Sing Oil when you need them! But, anyway, this store hung onto Proto-Lifestyle for quite a while until recently when it got Colorful Lifestyle v2. You'd think the old Proto-Lifestyle aisle markers would be swapped out for the Colorful Lifestyle v2/Lifestyle v3 ones like all the other recently renovated Randall's and Tom Thumbs in Texas, right?
ReplyDeleteWrong. Nope, somehow this store got Lifestyle v2 aisle markers at some point in the last 2-3 years! I'm not sure how that even happened. Did they take aisle markers from a store that was renovated or closed and move them here? It's just strange.
Anyway, enjoy this Winn-Safeway! Link: https://goo.gl/maps/1wys6vZ1GT4JyBf97
Wow, that is a weird store, especially with those open coffin freezers -- I'm quite surprised Safeway never replaced those!
DeleteI was expecting you to say that they had kept the Proto-Lifestyle aisle markers... switching to Lifestyle v2 ones is certainly a strange choice! I'm guessing they probably are reused from some closed store -- Kroger is notorious for doing that, as was Albertsons pre-merger.
Strange!
