Since San Francisco is famously seismically active, it's no surprise that this building needs some serious structural elements to hold it up... but still, this setup, with a massively oversized column in the middle of an already-narrow actionway is rather awkward, especially since this is the original configuration the store was built with! Also awkward is how the area in front of the deli counter is actually taken up with produce overflow, with the normal deli displays around the side, where I first entered the store.
