Also of note, though probably unrelated to the remodel, a banner reading "Legend's Corner" showed up below the main department sign at some point. I have absolutely no idea what that's about, and Google doesn't seem to know either; I've also never seen it at any other Safeway. Looking closely in the background (taking advantage of the much better image quality from my new phone!), I noticed that the wine shelving within the alcove had late-2010s chalkboard-style signage installed, rather than the standard Modern design, which is used above the hard liquor; both designs are fairly uncommon, with woodgrain category markers like the ones in the foreground being the norm.
Huh, I wonder what that Legend's Corner thing is all about. There seems to be some text at the bottom of the sign, but I can't make it out. Perhaps it is something referring to their premium alcohol brands?
ReplyDeleteThis liquor department looks quite nice. Some of Randall's beer & wine departments look nice, but they won't sell hard alcohol like this. There is some effort to change the laws in Texas, but I don't know if that'll happen.
I compared the Seattle area Safeway weekly ads to the Portland ones and I noticed some key differences. For one, Portland seems to have a double coupons promotion called 'Doubl'r'. Randall's was the last major Houston chain to have double coupons, but even that ended at least five years ago! Also, while the Seattle ads is full of 'Sincerely' references, the Portland ad, like the Randall's ad, has no Sincerely references in it at all. Perhaps the Portland and Houston ads were designed months in advance and so the Sincerely ads have not started yet. We'll see, I'm not complaining, lol.

Yeah, I don't remember what it said either -- I don't think I even paid attention to this when I was at the store. It's clearly something to do with liquor, but I'm not sure if its from Safeway, from some liquor company, or what.
DeleteInteresting -- Albertsons certainly used to run double coupon sales regularly, but I don't remember Safeway ever doing that around here! It seems a bit odd for them to be doing that now, with paper coupons being much less of a thing these days than they were five or ten years ago.
Yeah, for better or for worse, it seems that the Seattle division (and my store in particular) is an early adopter of the Sincerely Food campaign. I'm not sure exactly what areas have started using it so far, but I noticed that California doesn't seem to be yet either.
