As with many Fred Meyers from this era, this store has a small cafe seating area stuck between the deli and bakery. The "Eat Here" sign is a classic Banner thing that disappeared in later years (it may have even been taken out from some stores), while "Have a Seat" became more common in later remodels; this store has both, again showing the interesting transitional nature of this store's remodel.
I guess Fred Meyer leaves nothing to doubt. They tell you where to pay, to sit, and then eat!
ReplyDeleteI've always found the 'Have a Seat' department to be rather strange. It is not a common thing here in Houston. That said, June's The Year of Kroger will have a Have a Seat signage with the Banner decor package less. I say sign because the Have a Seat niche has been completely walled off so there is nowhere to have a seat even though Kroger is telling people to have a seat! Oh well.
Ha!
DeleteAround here, Fred Meyer closed all of their in-store seating areas during COVID, but I believe they're pretty much all open again now. It doesn't surprise me to hear that Kroger did that, though, since it seems like they're obsessed with stuffing Pickup into every store (something that isn't much of an issue at Fred Meyer, since most of their stores have more space than Kroger knows what to do with!).
I'm pretty sure this Kroger Have a Seat department is just sealed off and isn't being using for pick-up purposes. The Have a Seat department is literally on an island in the middle of the store! I know that sounds strange and, really, it is even stranger than it sounds!
