Traditional art, but giant

The Salish Coast Neighbourhood continues a short distance past the food court, with another large-scale art piece overhead, this time in a very traditional style but built in a very modern way. The wood flooring was also clearly inspired by traditional Salish patterns, and has to be one of the nicest flooring designs I've ever seen in a mall!

  1. This is indeed a very nice looking floor. In an era when flooring at retailers is often so uninspired, it is nice to see a modern mall with a nice floor. Granted, I don't think any credible mall would be dumb enough to use a Kroger-esque (kind of rhymes with grotesque!) concrete floor!

I'm sure you heard about the Portland Walmarts that are closing. I suspect Kroger/Fred Meyer will be happy about that!

    1. I believe I've seen malls with concrete flooring before, but certainly not anything as bad as the scarred flooring so many grocery stores have! Department stores, on the other hand...

Yep -- I was honestly surprised that Walmart actually had stores in Portland proper, as they don't in Seattle. I've heard lots of people out there hyperventilating about crime, but as I've said many times before, Walmart never really became all that popular in the Northwest, and especially in the urban areas. They've closed quite a few stores in the Portland and Seattle areas over the years, including several in areas where crime isn't a real issue.
