I had expected to feature Shoppers Drug Mart as part of my Vancouver trip, but it turns out that their stores are pretty darn boring inside, so I had better things to spend my time on. I'm definitely getting a bit of a Rite Aid vibe from this decor, though!
I went to a Shoppers Drug Mart in Niagara Falls, ON in 2011, before the chain was sold to Loblaw, and I found it to be pretty nice compared to a Walgreens or CVS. The decor of the store wasn't fancy, but everything felt well-maintained, clean, and fairly modern looking. The merchandise mix also seemed better than Walgreens and CVS. I went to a few mall Shoppers Drug Marts in more recent years after Loblaw bought them and didn't notice it to be hugely different than what I saw before, but I didn't look too closely.
ReplyDeleteDrug stores are pretty common in Canadian malls like they were at one time in the US, but aren't today. It's nice to see something that doubles as a convenience store in the malls as sometimes they are convenient stops while visiting urban malls where there may or may not be supermarkets or discount stores nearby.
Yeah, they do seem to be fairly nice stores, just nowhere near as interesting as, say, London Drugs!
DeleteDrug stores, grocery stores, and hypermarkets (Walmart in particular) all seem to be pretty common in the Vancouver-area malls I visited. I've never really understood why they fell out of favor on this side of the border!
