After the translucent birds we saw a few days ago, my second-favorite artwork (outside of the Coast Salish section) has to be this pair of herons surrounded by a halo of translucent plastic shapes hanging from the skylight above. While the Blue Heron Pizza Co isn't an original tenant and therefore couldn't have had anything to do with the placement of the sculpture, I strongly suspect that it was named in reference to it!
Interesting, it is pretty unusual for a store/restaurant to be named after a feature in the mall. In fact, this is the first time I can think of something like that happening, but perhaps I've seen something else before and I've forgotten about it. Hopefully the mall does not move this display or else the name of the pizza place won't make any sense!
ReplyDeleteI'd be surprised if it's entirely unique, but it's certainly not common! I doubt the artwork is going anywhere anytime soon, since it's integrated with the building itself... I imagine it will probably outlast the pizza place.
