This zone also features some rather strange glowing umbrella-ball things hanging from the ceiling. That's something you wouldn't see in Seattle, where people (stereotypically) refuse to have anything to do with umbrellas! (I'm not sure what the rain culture in Vancouver is like.)
Rain culture, huh, I've never heard of that before! People here in Houston use umbrellas, but it seems hoodies have become very popular in the last 10-15 years as a replacement for umbrellas. I prefer using an umbrella, but admittedly it is very windy near where I work due to a nearby lake and so using an umbrella in that kind of wind can be troublesome. Also, there is a lot of sideways rain because of the wind and an umbrella doesn't do much to stop that!
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing something like the old logo for Gulfgate Mall here in Houston would not be used in Seattle, lol. Gulfgate Mall closed about 20 years ago and was replaced by a powercenter which is still called Gulfgate. Speaking of Mills malls and umbrellas, Katy Mills here in Houston has/had this hanging from the ceiling: https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-KFQY3eqLvaw/TdH4oQtNA5I/AAAAAAAAChc/KXvsDHdpCe4/s1600/IMAG1438.jpg
Carpeted malls are always a bit odd to me since they are not common here and I have not come across them often in my travels. I think I'd like them, but it is a bit hard for me to say since I've seen so few of them!
Ha! The term may be something I just made up, but not using an umbrella is something that's become embedded into the culture in Seattle. Personally, I used to all the time when I lived in Port Angeles, but here in Seattle, it's hardly ever raining and not so windy that using an umbrella is almost impossible. (Hoodies would probably be even worse, though -- you really need a proper raincoat!)
DeleteI'm not sure what I think of carpeted malls, either. Typically, they're smaller and older, so it's a bit odd to see this in a very large, brand-new mall! I'm generally not a carpet fan in pretty much any application, but it looks good enough here.
