This store was built in 1961 as a Thriftway (a franchised chain of grocery stores in Washington that still has a handful of locations), before becoming a QFC sometime in the early 70s. That's interesting, since QFC started out as a group of Thriftway locations before the founders decided to go off on their own in the early 60s; I'm guessing this store was originally unrelated since there was a significant gap between when QFC became its own company and when this store rebranded as QFC, but I don't know that for sure. Anyway, Interbay is a strange neighborhood, mostly industrial with a handful of (mostly newer) retail and residential developments, right next to one of the main railyards in Seattle but squeezed in between two of the city's wealthiest neighborhoods (Magnolia, the hill you can see on the left, and Queen Anne, behind me). As a result, you get an interesting mix of people shopping here, especially since Magnolia itself lacks a full-service grocery store currently (it just has the tiny, ancient Albertsons and a similarly small, very upmarket Metropolitan Market -- the Albertsons should be replaced by a full-size Safeway with apartments above in the near future, however).
