Catch that gigantic bread

The meat department is fairly normal despite that, however, just having to share its alcove with the bakery rather than having it all to itself. Whenever I see this decor, I have to wonder who thought a pile of dead fish was a good image to use at a grocery store...

  1. Huh, I wonder why the designed this sign such that the 'h' in 'Catch' is spilling out of the oval. It looks like they had enough room to make it fit if the moved the word over just a smidge.

From here, that metal awning (I guess it is metal) looks like it might be cardboard! If this was modern Kroger decor, it probably would be made from cardboard if nothing else! Oh, speaking of which, I went to a Kroger in my area that I had not been to in about six months. I knew this store, a Bountiful store, was scheduled for a remodel, but I wasn't sure what to expect. Well, the store was Remixed! Very cheap 2D signage aside, the Remix colors add some needed brightness to that store which looked dull and dark with Bountiful's colors. I'm a Bountiful fan, but I think Remix is a better look in that store. Yep, some people might be floored by that statement, lol.

I suppose this Fred Meyer will be okay as long as it doesn't smell like dead fish, lol.

    1. While this may be a Fred Meyer-exclusive decor package, it is from the Kroger era, and Kroger isn't exactly known for their quality control for decor installation! 😃

Huh, interesting! I've always thought Remix colors look a bit garish, but then again, I've never seen it in person.

    2. I've been to two Remixed stores (both previously Bountiful stores, but perhaps Remix is only being used at ex-Bountiful stores) and the two stores couldn't be any more different in terms of design. One is a Greenhouse store and the other is an early 2000s Signature store. The two stores did have one thing in common aside from Bountiful: both had their floors removed and the tile scarred concrete below it stained dark brown.

The dark brown concrete stain and the dark brown on the walls made these stores kind of dark and a bit dingy feeling. Perhaps you've experienced this with Lifestyle v1/2 Safeways with concrete floors. The Greenhouse store was probably less dark than the Signature store, but both had a dark look. The flooring at these stores have not changed with Remix, but the brighter green and such of Remix does give the stores a brighter look. While the light green might look a bit cheap, I think the real problem with Remix is the terribly cheap looking 2D decor especially in the produce department. Otherwise, I reckon Remix isn't so bad.

Of course, if these stores still had some kind of flooring tile, I don't think they would have needed Remix's lighter colors to brighten the stores. Remix might be a case of a 'patch' fix to help make those terrible concrete floors look less bad. All in all, it's not a good showing by whomever decides how Kroger stores should look!
