My apologies for the lack of any posts last night -- I went to a concert and was planning to write my posts between work and that, but then I ended up getting stuck at work late so I didn't have enough time. I try not to skip days very often because I fear that if I start, I will end up skipping days very often! 🙂
Stepping back a little bit, it becomes clear that quite a few of the green jelly-jar lights on this entrance are dead, which is rather unfortunate. (When I first got here before all the exterior lighting was on, I was guessing they were all dead.) At least all of the neon rings are working, though it's hard to say if all three stripes (blue-green-blue) are lit on each from this photo. (One of these days, I'll get a camera that's actually decent in low-light conditions...)
The gable shape and glass front looks a lot like 1960s-70s supermarkets, such as Weingarten or Handy Andy here in Houston, which is amazing because the grocery stores that survived with that look in the 1990s were heavily remodeled in the 1990s to look different from this! Granted, perhaps this ranch-like look is a natural fit in Spokane. I'm not sure about that, but it does look good so I'm not complaining.
ReplyDeleteHa! Honestly, the big glass facades look a bit ahead of their time to me, similar to a lot of architecture from the early 00s... that style wasn't used all that much in retail, though. People complain all the time about airports looking like malls these days, but this part of the mall looks a lot like an airport to me! 🙂
DeleteHope you enjoyed the concert!
ReplyDeleteThanks! It was quite good, though a bit overwhelming for me.
