Hometown Butcher

The left side of the meat counter is lined by platitudes about community stuff, something that's become a fairly common grocery decor theme in recent years (though one that doesn't show up in any mainstream Safeway decors, for whatever reason). Not quite as nice as a mural, but still better than blank wall space.

  1. I'm not sure if that wood is actual wood or not, but it looks much more real than the fake wood used by Kroger in recent years. This Safeway wood has a very 1970s look to it...I like it! Granted, I know it's not for everyone, lol.

I found some photos of the two Randall's stores in the Houston suburb of The Woodlands. These both closed 2-3 years ago. One still had proto-Lifestyle decor when it closed, which is really surprising because it was a newer store in a wealthy area, and the other had Lifestyle v2. The Lifestyle v2 one had some unique wood paneling elements which probably stem from the original construction of the store long before Safeway took over Randall's. The Lifestyle v2 one is currently serving as a Spirit Halloween store. Anyway, I thought you might like to take a look at these:

    1. I'm sure it's fake, just like in Modern, but at least it's a good quality fake. That's a real difference from Safeway Canada, too! 🙂 This type of wood paneling isn't really my sort of thing, but at least they did a good job with it.

Cool stuff! I'm still not a fan of that super stripped-down version of Lifestyle v2, but the rest of that store is pretty neat.
