Soupwich (two things that should never be combined)

Most of the restaurants here are local, independent/small chain spaces, largely with an Asian theme. And since this whole food court is new, all of the places are themselves quite modern, something I'm not used to seeing in a food court! For my visit being on a weekday evening in the middle of winter, I was somewhat surprised to see that I wasn't the only person here at the time.

  1. Food courts around here usually aren't anything special, but I remember some of the vast food courts at Canadian malls that I saw up there pre-Covid at least. Some of them had 2-3x as many vendors as even some of our biggest malls...and the food court was still packed! It seemed that it was some combination of shoppers eating there and office workers since most of the malls I went to were downtown ones. They also had a lot of Asian places and some were of Asian nationalities which are uncommon here in the US. They certainly take, or took at least, mall food courts more seriously up there than down here!

    1. I certainly noticed that when I was in Vancouver too -- while I didn't think the food courts looked all that much larger than what I'm used to, they certainly seemed far more successful in terms of the amount of filled spaces and how many customers there were! There were certainly a lot of Asian-themed food court restaurants that I saw too, though it turns out that unfortunately, most of them are the same sort of low-quality chain places that I would expect from a mall food court, so not everything is better in Canada 🙂
