Jail bars

Apart from the signage, I believe the only change Campeón made to the exterior here was adding this wrought-iron security fence to the front of the building -- certainly an odd choice, and I have to wonder what prompted it, since security gates/shutters are a very rare sight in Seattle (which itself seems like proof that all of the people screaming about crime aren't necessarily right). This particular design really doesn't present a welcoming image to customers!

  1. Burglar bars would certainly be an unusual thing here at a large supermarket building like this which isn't all that old. I've seen a few supermarkets which have a roll-down metal gate that blocks the front entrance when the store isn't open, but I don't think I've seen burglar bars quite like this at anything but corner grocery stores/C-stores in less than prime spots of town.

Not long before Radio Shack's first bankruptcy, I went to a location of theirs in a not-so-prime part of Houston on the North Freeway where the clerk had to 'buzz' everyone in and out of the store. I'm pretty sure the windows had burglar bars over it as well and it might have had a gate on the door as well. Perhaps given the location of the store, such precautions weren't completely unexpected, but it was still strange seeing a major chain retailer operate in such a manner. The location was an older Radio Shack and, as such, it was a bit larger than most newer Radio Shacks and they had a little bit more variety of goods so that's why I stopped there because I figured they had something the other stores around me didn't...which they did so that was good.

    1. Yeah, I've seen those sort of smaller stores in not-great neighborhoods have security bars of some sort before, but never anything like this!

Wow, that's crazy! I've heard of banks and very high end jewelry stores doing things like that, but not a store on Radio Shack's level!
