Heading back over towards the escalators, here's a look down through the new opening that extends the atrium to the basement level. Previously, this space was taken up by a coffee kiosk on the main floor (it's quite surprising that this mall no longer has a coffee shop of any kind -- it must be one of the only buildings in downtown Seattle without one! -- but perhaps there were plans that were derailed by this mall's massive issues) and a parking pay office in the basement. Down below, there's a fairly large indoor garden, which we'll look at more closely soon.
Wow, that's surprising that it doesn't have a couple of Starbucks...or any other coffee! That is very strange!
ReplyDeleteSomeone on Retail Watchers said today that the Port Angeles Sears Hometown is closing. Have you heard anything about this? Link: https://www.retailwatchers.com/viewtopic.php?t=3073
Oh, and you were mentioned in Mike's latest HHR post today about the Memorial Dr. & Dairy Ashford Randall's! Link: https://houstonhistoricretail.com/2022/03/02/handy-randalls-the-store-that-killed-an-heb-still-here-50-years-later/
It would be a lot stranger if the mall didn't have only a handful of stores overall! 😉
DeleteThat's not the Sears, but rather the Saar's -- the local chain low-end grocery store that took over the former Albertsons/Haggen. I was in Port Angeles last week and thought about visiting the closing Saar's, but I didn't get around to it. Sears still seems to be hanging on, somehow. Saar's had tried and failed in Port Angles before (a much longer-lived store in a former Stock Market Foods that QFC didn't buy), and had a terrible reputation for quality from those days, so I'm not too surprised that their second attempt didn't go well.
Great to see that post completed! I doubt I'll be seeing Colorful Lifestyle v1.9 anytime soon, but I'll finally be posting about Lifestyle v1.9 soon, and barring significant snow in Eastern Washington, I should be visiting a Colorful Lifestyle v2 store next week!
Ha, I suppose I should have read that Saar's post more carefully! I was wondering why it was in the supermarket section of Retail Watchers, lol. I was just surprised to see anything about Port Angeles retail, but I suppose your home area does have some 'retail watchers' in it.
DeleteThat Saar's didn't look too exciting, but then neither did the Haggen. Oh well.
Hopefully the Colorful Lifestyle v2 store you visit has bigger signage than the Randall's Colorful Lifestyle v1.9 store! Handy Andy's history in Houston hasn't been all that well documented so I'm glad Mike has started on that and also captured that neat Randall's in the process. It's a store I shop at occasionally and it is the sole remaining sister store to the ex-Handy Andy Randall's I usually shop at so it's always neat to see a store with personal connections make it to the Internet.
